Aamir Shafi - NUST

Welcome to Aamir Shafi's NUST webpages.

I am Director for the Center for High Performance Scientific Computing (aka HPC lab). at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. I also hold the position of Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science ( SEECS ).

I did my Ph.D. as part of the Distributed Systems Group (DSG). My Ph.D. supervisors were Mark Baker and Bryan Carpenter. I have co-designed and co-implemented MPJ Express . I continue to spend most of my time on research and development related to MPJ Express.

Research Interests

Generally speaking, I am interested in research, design, implementation, and evaluation of parallel programming hardware, models, paradigms, and models.

High performance and high productivity software models for multi-core processors.

Honours

• Awarded a travel grant to teach a parallel computing course at the University of La Coruna, Spain.
• I was awarded travel grant for presenting my research paper at the IEEE Cluster Computing Conference (Cluster 2006) held in Barcelona, Spain.
• James Gosling, one of the founders of Java called MPJ Express one of his favourite MPI-like library. Source: MPI Meets Multicore.
• I was accepted as a student volunteer for the Supercomputing Conference 2005 SC|05 held at Seattle, WA.
• I was awarded a gold medal for the best project of the year 2003, at the National University of Sciences and Technology.
